Stakes Winning Son of Leading Sire
The Amazing Story Behind
This Son of TAPIT
Tidal Volume is of Tapit's oldest foal crop. Sold as a yearling during the Keeneland September yearling sale by Gainesway Farm and purchased by Art Preston of Preston Stables in Paris, Kentucky. Tidal Volume had a foreseen solid race career in front of him. Late in his 2 year old year, he suffered a fracture in his knee during training and was then sent home for rest. Shortly after his injury, Tidal Volume was gifted to Robin Murphy of Bethel, Ohio. The probabilities of this young colt going on to become a racehorse were quite slim. Murphy took the colt home to Ohio, rehabilitated him with a lot of time and patience with much success......
Amazingly enough, his first start on the track was two years later, as a late 4 year old. The obvious talent this horse had shown, breaking his maiden on his first start, in the mud and running very green, sent Murphy into the hunt for the right trainer to condition and care for her special horse. Through five months of observing and researching trainers, Tidal Volume was sent to Tom Amoss for the duration of his career.
His first year with Amoss, Tidal Volume went on to win four in a row, on dirt and the turf, at 4 different tracks, Churchill Downs, Indiana Downs, Hoosier Park and to win the Temperance Hill Stake Race at Louisiana Downs. Running through his conditions within a short period and earning triple digit beyers, Tidal Volume deserved time off for the winter months.
Going into his 6 year old year, the 17 hand grey horse, returned to the stable of Tom Amoss, again accumulating wins on various surfaces, distances and tracks against stakes and allowance company. He was carefully monitored during his training to insure his soundness to produce earnings and wins which were only a passing thought at the time of his injury at the young age of two. As of August 2014, Tidal Volume whom had a late start as a racehorse, has retired sound with 8 wins, 3 seconds, 2 thirds from 23 starts, including a stakes win and earnings of $231,476.
In 2015, Tidal Volume will begin the career as a stallion, to stand at Robin Murphy's Poplar Creek Horse Center located in Bethel, Ohio. We feel that bringing a stakes winning son of the runaway leading sire, TAPIT, into the new Ohio Race Program will be an exciting and rewarding venture.
